Before you go

Umrah can be performed at any time of the year except the Hajj period. Book your Umrah permit on the Nusuk platform.

Step 1: Ihram

Make the intention to enter the state of Ihram and perform Umrah, recite the Talbiyah and put on the Ihram garments.

Ihram is entered before crossing the miqat, the boundary around Makkah. Flying from Pakistan to Jeddah, you enter Ihram before or during the flight. If you go to Madinah first, Dhul Hulaifa is the miqat when you leave Madinah for Makkah.

Step 2: Tawaf

Enter the mataf and stand in line with the Black Stone, keeping it on your left. Raise your hand and say "Allahu Akbar", then walk around the Kaaba counterclockwise, making dua as you go.

Each time you come back in line with the Black Stone you have finished one round: raise your hand and say "Allahu Akbar" again. Complete seven rounds.

Step 3: Sa'i between Safa and Marwa

After Tawaf, follow the signs inside the Grand Mosque to the Mas'a and start at Safa. Walk to Marwa: that is one lap. Men jog between the two green markers on the way. Walk back to Safa for the second lap and continue until the seventh lap ends at Marwa.

Step 4: Shave or trim the hair

Men shave the whole head or shorten the hair. Women cut 1 to 2 cm from the ends of their hair. This completes the Umrah and lifts the restrictions of Ihram. You can wait until you are back at your hotel, but the restrictions stay until the hair is cut.

For men: uncovering the right shoulder during Tawaf, walking faster in the first three rounds of Tawaf and jogging between the green markers in Sa'i. For everyone: praying two rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim after Tawaf.
