Where it is

Fairy Meadows sits at about 3,300 metres in Diamer District, near one of the base camp sites of Nanga Parbat and the starting point for climbs on its Rakhiot face. The nearest city is Chilas. It was declared a national park in 1995 and has been part of Nanga Parbat National Park since 2021.

The peak you see from the meadow is usually the North Peak (7,816 m). The main summit of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) is hidden behind it.

Getting there

The trip starts at Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway. From there a jeep track of about 15 km climbs to the village of Tato; only local drivers are allowed on this road, so the jeep ride is arranged locally. From Tato it is a 5 km hike to Fairy Meadows, which takes about three to four hours.

Many visitors stay a night or two and hike on towards the Nanga Parbat base camp. Check each package's itinerary for the nights at the meadow and whether the base camp hike is included.

When to go

The tourist season runs from April to the end of September, so check the tour dates before you plan.
