Compare the right things

Start with the departure city and date, then the number of days and how many of them are spent on the road. Look at the transport, the hotels and whether rooms are shared, which meals are included, and what is not: entry tickets, jeeps and personal expenses are often extra.

Two tours at the same price can be very different trips, so open the itinerary day by day rather than comparing the headline price.

Ask before you book

Ask the agency where the pickup point is, how many people travel in the group, what happens if a road is closed by weather, and who to call on the trip. On Wonderlist you can message the agency in the app before you book, and its profile shows reviews from past travellers.

Paying and refunds

You pay the agency directly, usually a deposit first and the balance before departure, and upload the payment receipt in the app. Each agency sets its own refund policy, shown on its profile and package, so read it before you pay: a refund can be partial or nothing at all depending on when you cancel.
