Naran Kaghan travel guide

The Kaghan Valley follows the Kunhar River through Mansehra District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with Naran as its main stop. It is the closest of the northern valleys to Islamabad and Lahore, which makes it the usual choice for short 2 to 4 day trips.

When to go

The valley is closed to visitors in winter, when glaciers block the roads. From May to the end of September the roads and the Babusar Pass usually stay open. The exact opening date changes every year with the snow, so check the tour dates with the agency.

What to see

Lake Saiful Muluk lies in Saiful Muluk National Park near Naran. Further up the valley, Lulusar Lake (3,410 m) is the main source of the Kunhar River. The road ends at the Babusar Pass, around 4,170 m, on the border of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
